Who’s behind A1 Polyglot
Hi, I’m Sergio. I created A1 Polyglot after spending more than a decade building digital projects for other people. I design websites, write books and magazines, build apps, and create digital content. But before all of that, I was a language teacher. I taught English, and I studied Japanese, French, Italian, and German on my own. That part of my life never stopped calling me.
Back in 2012 I founded Digital Editorial with one goal, to create interactive digital books for learning languages. I even started a site named ioLang where I shared tips for learners. But life moved fast. Clients began asking me for websites, ebooks, and marketing content. The work grew, the income grew, and slowly, without noticing, I drifted away from that first dream. I built a career I’m proud of, but the original idea stayed unfinished.
Years passed, and I realized it was time to return to that path and help people learn languages again. That’s how A1 Polyglot began to take shape.
A1 Polyglot
The name comes from something very personal. Since the moment I started studying languages, I’ve had this simple dream of sitting at a table with people from different countries and switching from one language to another just to enjoy the moment. You don’t need advanced fluency to do that, you only need the basics, the A1 level. With A1 you can introduce yourself, ask what you need, and share something about your life. That’s enough to break borders and connect with people who grew up very far from you.
At some point I thought, people collect cars, comics, or mugs. What if I collect A1 certificates? Not to prove expertise, but to keep learning in a way that feels fun and achievable. My first goal is to earn the A1 level in three different languages, and later in ten. It is not about perfection, it is about being able to speak to more than half of the world at a basic level.Years passed, and I realized it was time to return to that path and help people learn languages again. That’s how A1 Polyglot began to take shape.
A1 Polyglot Phrases
The idea behind A1 Polyglot Phrases came unexpectedly. I got the chance to travel to Germany back in September 2025, and wanted to refresh the very little German I knew. I tried to look for simple, audio based practice, because that is how I learn best. But everything I found felt expensive or too rigid. I have always liked methods like Pimsleur because I can practice while walking, driving, or doing chores. When I saw the price of their full plan, I thought, maybe I can build my own system.
I know how to design websites, I understand how people learn languages, and I love building digital tools. So I tried. What started as a list of one hundred phrases for my trip slowly grew into a full web app.
Check out my first version of A1 Polyglot Phrases here. It is very basic compared to the version currently available, but that’s how the idea was born.
First I added the option to choose which phrases to learn, then playback controls. When it worked for me, I thought it might help others too, so I kept improving it. Then I built it for more languages, and A1 Polyglot Phrases took on a life of its own.
My vision is to create a wide collection of tools, apps, videos, podcasts, books, online courses, and a global community of learners who support each other. For users, I want to offer recommendations and resources in different formats so each person finds what truly works for them. For myself as an entrepreneur, I want this project to eventually replace my income from web design so I can dedicate myself fully to A1 Polyglot. With time, I hope to build a team, teach them everything I know, and retire knowing that the project keeps growing beyond me.
A1 Polyglot is where my love for languages, education, design, and technology finally meet again. And I want to share that journey with you.
